Thanks Mehmood Khana for your generosity. You reciprocated in a nobler way but allow me to say:

  Janana raasha che pukhlaa shoo
Zama Sta sook dee che ba mung pukhla kaweena

Pleased?

Babagula, I feel honored by your comments.
The answer to your afore-mentioned tappa is:

  Janana mrey ka pa'tey ke'gey
Da me aadat che narai stargey torawooma

Shazalmay has become a threat  Grin ... hmmm...but let us see:

Da tha che zay aakhir....

Watan da yaar pa stargoo khog day
Che yar ye na'wi sa watan sa be-watana

or

Che musafir shee bya ba raashi
Da tooro khawroo musafir kala razeena

Che "de" da tooro zulfu war woo...

Sorry Shazalmiya, you mis-quoted this tappa. The correct tappa is:

Che "me" da tooro zulfu war woo
Da cha ba kaar woo cha ba hasey ghak kawoona

As concerning "Da tappey war rasara magda", please note (with apologies in advance):

  Halaka dasey rata khkarey
Laka cheendakha che pa loota naasta weena

Sometimes the best communication is in brevity and tappa <Kha da che tha da khaira raghley…> speaks it all. Eggzzeellent Shalzalmia…Eggzzeeellent!

Kala ba yam kala ba nayam
Pa boorjaloono mey da’da* raza mayana     *bold

<Ziaro jamo key dase kharey…>

Matha pa samoo stargoo goora
Za da dunya da kara tha weestaleyama

Khwday ba de bya ra’ta muhtaj kree
Tar Khurasan da wawroo speena khwla larama

Halaka bad’ me amokhta kray
Che khwla darnakram marawar garzey maina

<Poore pa ghar lateen baleegi….>

Pa isharat ba de ra’ghwaram
Pa joora* wroono** ba de prookee prookee karma   *two  **brothers

With regards to your remarks <Khan Baba won’t award …>

Halaka loye she burkhurdar shey
Rozee da plar she za de tash deedan kawaooma

Now hitting the nail upright, note the following:

Baghwan pa bagh* ke khurma** goori     *garden ** Pine tree/dates
Pa stargoo roond she khurma za walarayama

Much of the literature concerning Tappas (or traditional oral folk poems) emphasizes the fact that it is a woman’s genre, however, participant observation and fieldwork carried out by ethnologists argue that tappas are created by men to represent an “idealized” woman’s voice. What do the Hujra Members think?

Assalamualaikum,

You are right Rokhana, most of the time when we listen to/read Tappa it seems that it is of woman genre.  What I think is that mostly Tappa has not been written by anyone or composed by anyone, it has created itself ...

Tappa are those national couplets in Pashto whose authors are unkown. They can, therefore, be called mirrors which reflect the sentiments and passions of every sensitive pashtoon man and woman Smiley

These couplets, composed of plain, easily understood, yet fluent language, are totally free of the influence of foreign, languages.

Another outstanding quality of these couplets in that contrary to the general pattern of poetry in most (Tappa) the woman address the man. This is so because compared to the male the sentiments of the female are more tender, her sorrow more profound and he voice more sweeter, and that is why the (Tappa) are more moving in their effects, and the enjoyment is proportionately greator than that found in conventional pushto poetry.

Similarly every (Tappa) couplet can be recited in different ways on different occasions. To be more explicit, a Tappa couplet can be sung in different tunes and with different musical notes in combat and rejoicing, while travelling, whether inactive or dancing, in travail and happiness, in fact at all times and on all occasions.

I copied the above paragraphs from a web site, I hope it may give u an idea about Tappa ...

gul mein pa laas key khaza ke gee
pradey watan dey za ye chata wanessam ...

Da tha'tha cha wey che mayan sha

Mohammed Brad, you will find the following anthologies of Tappas interesting:

1) Roohi Sandary by Peghla Salma Shaheen (this volume entailing thousands of tappas can be had from Pashtu Academy, Peshawar).

2) Da Gulu Taal by Sayed Akbar Sabir

3) Sarood-i-Kohisar by Mohammed Younis Sethi

4) Gul Tapay by Gul Mohammed Kakar

5) Landai by Abdul Rauf Be'nawa

Spoogmai Krang Waha Rakheja and Pakhtu Tappay also are equally valuable anthologies of Tappas.

And now:

Ka yari kram makh me tooreegi
Ka yari nak'ram arman'jana nasta yama

Rokhana, thank you very much for the books about Pashtu tappa.

And I am back in this compitition.  Smiley. But the anchor person who kick-started the compitition has disappeared. And now this is an effort without a reward.  Sad

Anyhow, take this tappa:

Awal ba kala kala gham wo
Oss the ghamono sisilaia pa ma razina

 Wink
